Search for the lepton flavor violating τ → 3μ decay in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13TeV
(2024)Physics Letters BA search for the lepton flavor violating τ → 3μ decay is performed using proton-proton collision events at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2017–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 97.7 fb⁻¹. Tau leptons produced in both heavy-flavor hadron and W boson decays are exploited in the analysis. No evidence for the decay is observed. The results of this search are combined with an ...Journal Article -

Thank You to Our 2023 Peer Reviewers
(2024)AGU AdvancesOn behalf of the AGU Advances editorial team, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who reviewed manuscripts for us in 2023. Peer review is time-consuming, but it remains essential to the scientific process. Advances reviewers continue to help define the scope of our journal by commenting specifically on whether a paper is likely to have broad and immediate impact. We also appreciate the degree to which reviewers have ...Other Journal Item -
Teaching transposon classification as a means to crowd source the curation of repeat annotation – a tardigrade perspective
(2024)Mobile DNABackground: The advancement of sequencing technologies results in the rapid release of hundreds of new genome assemblies a year providing unprecedented resources for the study of genome evolution. Within this context, the significance of in-depth analyses of repetitive elements, transposable elements (TEs) in particular, is increasingly recognized in understanding genome evolution. Despite the plethora of available bioinformatic tools for ...Journal Article -
How much should we sequence? An analysis of the Swiss SARS-CoV-2 surveillance effort
(2024)Microbiology SpectrumDuring the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, many countries directed substantial resources toward genomic surveillance to detect and track viral variants. There is a debate over how much sequencing effort is necessary in national surveillance programs for SARS-CoV-2 and future pandemic threats. We aimed to investigate the effect of reduced sequencing on surveillance outcomes in a large genomic data set from Switzerland, comprising more than 143k ...Journal Article -

Latest results from the RD42 collaboration on the radiation tolerance of polycrystalline diamond detectors
(2024)Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated EquipmentAs nuclear and particle physics facilities move to higher intensities, the detectors used there must be more radiation tolerant. Diamond is in use at many facilities due to its inherent radiation tolerance and ease of use. In this article we present our radiation tolerance measurements of the highest quality polycrystalline Chemical Vapor Deposition (pCVD) diamond material for irradiations from a range of proton energies, pions and neutrons ...Journal Article -
Revealing legacy effects of extreme droughts on tree growth of oaks across the Northern Hemisphere
(2024)Science of The Total EnvironmentForests are undergoing increasing risks of drought-induced tree mortality. Species replacement patterns following mortality may have a significant impact on the global carbon cycle. Among major hardwoods, deciduous oaks (Quercus spp.) are increasingly reported as replacing dying conifers across the Northern Hemisphere. Yet, our knowledge on the growth responses of these oaks to drought is incomplete, especially regarding post-drought ...Journal Article -
Search for an exotic decay of the Higgs boson into a Z boson and a pseudoscalar particle in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(2024)Physics Letters BA search for an exotic decay of the Higgs boson to a Z boson and a light pseudoscalar particle (a), decaying to a pair of leptons and a pair of photons, respectively, is presented. The search is based on proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of √s = 13TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb⁻¹. The analysis probes pseudoscalar masses mₐ between 1 and 30 GeV, ...Journal Article -
Harmonized quality assurance/quality control provisions to assess completeness and robustness of MS1 data preprocessing for LC-HRMS-based suspect screening and non-targeted analysis
(2024)TrAC - Trends in Analytical ChemistryNon-targeted and suspect screening analysis using liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) holds great promise to comprehensively characterize complex chemical mixtures. Data preprocessing is a crucial part of the process, however, some limitations are observed: (i) peak-picking and feature extraction might be incomplete, especially for low abundant compounds, and (ii) limited reproducibility has been ...Review Article
